JonesDBR worked with Gensler on the Houston Baptist University – The Sadie & Doug Hodo Residence College. Built in 2008 and known as the Lake House Residence, this primary campus residence was dedicated and renamed the Sadie and Doug Hodo Residence College in honor of HBU’s second university president and first lady.
JonesDBR provided MEP design services for the new 6-level 300-bed dormitory building totaling 125,000 square feet. The building includes a mix of private and shared living spaces. The first floor includes study and recreation spaces and a chapel. The building is conditioned by an air-cool chilled water system. The electrical system includes a generator for life safety and egress systems and maintains minimal building power through extended power outages. The building is equipped with wireless network access throughout.
On the first floor there are several public areas for student use including a grand entry lobby with a reception area, a mail room, a small convenience store, study rooms, a laundry center, an activity room, a fitness room, a parlor (the “living room” of the building), and a small chapel. This facility allows Houston Baptist to continue their impact in the college community.
